If you missed the 2nd Annual Twin Cities' Hip Hop Awards here's a sneak peek at what went down...check back for the OFFICIAL Reveiw..........
Hosted by: The Funniest Comedian ever: Boima Freeman His Hightlight: Dropped his pants and showed his 'Depends' Djay: Djay MV- last years best DJ Winner! His Highlight: Mixed hot local music, that kept the crowd rockin prior to the show even starting!! Dudes on Fire!!!
In my opinion: I give mad respect to Depth for doing this for the Cities. Seriously, we need things like this, things that support and unite our Cities' and our artists. What he has done should be respected and awarded!
HOWEVER, Twin Cities what in the heck is going on? How can we have artists but no fans? I mean we were ALL there to show our people luv- right? People were not cheering, or even clapping at times! Thank God for Boima - he kept the crowd motivated and encouraged us to all get off our high horses and show some love! During the performances people stood there acting as if they were too cool to dance or even bob their heads! It was truly disappointing and very disrespectful.
BUT, artists you don't get off that easily! The BEEF NEEDS TO END! We cannot succeed when we are constantly fighting and beefing. Who cares if you're from Northside and rapper X is from Southside?! No one! Some artists got on stage and simply disrespected everyone in the building. but I won't say any names. I will say this: give respect and you WILL get it.
However, it was good to see the Twin Cities' come out dressed for the red Carpet. Everyone look exceptionally well, but NO ONE looked better than Depth - his Red blazer, TC Hip Hop awards shirt and hat was Hot! He mos def set the tone for the evenings attire! And it was great to see all the 'fans' they had to close the doors because it was so packed, but the true Hip Hop fans waited outside, trying desperately to catch a glimpse of what was going on and who was on the internal red carpet.
Minnerapolis.com, Litt magazine and RnB Ntertainment were on site along with our crew, inBox Magazine Twin Cities ...so there is mad footage and photo's that will be flooding the streets very soon. Everyone got along- Rappers take note: The Twin Cities' Press all got along great!!!
The night itself was crazy, fun, frustrating, cool, eventful, fabulous, tiring and crazy (had to say it twice!). When asked what he'd like to say to the Twin Cities, Funnyman Boima got serious: "I'd just like to say it was a privilege to host the show and be in inBox Magazine."
When asked if he'd do this again, next year Depth responded.....well, you'll have to pick up that hot inBox footage to see (or come back and read the official review)!! hahaha!!
To wrap this unofficial review up I want to say this: we have some GREAT talent in the Twin Cities- I mean GREAT..can't wait to it all comes together and we blow up!!!

So Funny Man Boima commented on my last blog which prompted me to write this one...he basically said the cops (and others) think every young black man is a rapper and/or drug dealer and because of rap our young black men are being looked at in a negative manner (but read what he said because it was too funny!).
Anyway, he is right; Cops (and other people) are looking at our young men as if they are all drug dealers, thieves, and murderers. I won't put the full blame on Rap but the Rappers have contributed to this negative image our black men now have. Any young man that is wearing 'street clothes' is considered a thug- we can't even take pride in the way we look any longer because the image is connected at the hip with drug dealers and murderers- I guess that's why so many people are running towards the Kanye fashion or the TI style. We want to be respected and looked at as mature, successful people and because the saggin' pants or 'white tee's' have gotten so much negative attention over the years it is no longer 'ok' to even LOOK like a 'Rapper'.
Boima cracked me up when he said he gets picked on by the cops cause he drives a Chevy- this is too true. My fiancé and I won't even trick out our Chevy because in MN you will get harassed- they see a Chevy with some tint and a nice grill or some shoes and they just know there's a Kilo in the trunk. I can't tell you how many times I've been pulled over and once the Cop sees this 'innocent' young girl they just let me go- WTF???
Dressing a certain way and riding a certain way is something that people of the 'Hip Hop Culture' take pride in- we want to look nice, ride nice, and feel great. Does saggin pants mean you are a drug dealing murderer looking for your next drive by victim? No- but that is what they perceive. On the other hand what do you think of a man walking around in a suite? The fact is we all have our preconceived notions- which is fine- but when the people running the country has preconceived notions about an entire group of people - that is WRONG . It's WRONG to pull someone over because they are riding a Chevy, it's WRONG to be afraid of someone because he is sagging his pants, and it is WRONG to put an entire culture down because it doesn't look the way you want it to or act the way you want it to act.
Every black man does not sale drugs, every black man is not a rapper and there are many that don't even want to be a drug dealer or rapper. Rap is a lot of things but one thing it is not is THE VOICE OF HIP HOP. I'm tired of seeing these dudes running around in pink suites with polka dot bow ties hoping they will 'blend in' or look more professional. What happened to Hip Hop being a culture of expression and HONESTY? So what if (as Boima says) Rick Ross happened to drive a Chevy and he happened to sale drugs- he’s not speaking for the mass population of black men- he speaking for himself- telling his story. Once again I will say; The fact is we all have our preconceived notions- which is fine- but when the people running the country has preconceived notions about an entire group of people- that is WRONG .
Guy is going down on a girl
he pops back up, holding his fingers up high
she ask him, "what's the problem???"
he replies "good news firstor bad news???"
she goes it doesn't matter
he replies, "Bad news is your coochie stink...........Good newsis Ireally don't care"
moral to the story, sometimes life stinks, but you can't let it get to you.......
It's funny how so many people out there don't remember back in the day Hip Hop Legends like Grand Master Flash, Ghetto Boyz, MC Lyte, EPMD,KRS ONE (not the technical collage in Minnesota), Guru, Beastie Boys, Kwame, Fat Boyz, NINE, Fresh Prince (without the bel air part) and DJ Jazzy Jeff and many many many more.........
all of these cats are back in the day legends and they are still making music today.....
But if you ask the average so call "Hip Hop head", they know nothing of these groups/legends or nothing about hip hop before the year 2000. Like the fad came with the new century or something.
Hip Hop turning into Rap has brought many new listeners which is good for Rap I guess, but I hate it when these so called "Hip Hop heads" hear some old sampled beat that they think it's the newest thing on earth, then I have to feel like I'm old for trying to school these young bucks(not G units) on who the hell "Black Star" or "Boogie Down Production" is yo.......
Picture this, hip hop was born one year after me, so that means I was dancing to Beat Box in my diapers.............
and most of these young bucks nowadays think Beat Box is what happens when a homeless man gets anger and starts to pound on his cardboard home
My point is this, Hip Hop has become a fad, and it has always been a culture.......
LATER MY FUFU EATERS :)
I asked this question to my grand dad andhe goes "I guess cause Jesus is Black".........LOL
OK, guess who I got my comedy genes from??? Not him
But it always puzzled meas tohow quickly we find religion when we know we are loosing something or about to get alot taken away from us like freedom...
WHY CAN'T WE FIND JESUS WHEN WE ARE ABOUT TO HAVE THAT 3 SOME?? Cause he won't be interested???
WHY DON'T WE FIND JESUS WHEN WE ARE AT THE BAR DRINKING AND ABOUT TO DRIVE?? cause he don't drink, only on first sundays??
WHY CAN'T WE FIND JESUS IN CHURCH?? Cause we are too busy sleeping from the drinking and the 3some from the night before.......
I'm not trying to preach, just saying, Find Jesus on BET (gospel hour), Church, Praise the laud network, Jehovah Witness, the Bible............find him anywhere, because by the time you are in court or in Jail.........HE MIGHT NOT BE THERE FOR YOU TO FIND.....he'll be on this site posting that HE IS HIP HOP
